It’s set to be a summer of celebration for Leeds United. After spending 16 seasons outside of the top tier, Marcelo Bielsa’s side secured promotion in emphatic style after coming away as champions in the Sky Bet Championship. The Whites were, for the most part, a step ahead of their competition at all times as their superior fitness and cutting edge In front of goal saw them overcome last year’s disappointment to finally get the job done.It was a long season for more than one reason, and now the time has come for the players to rest up and regroup ahead of next term. But while that’s the case in the playing squad, matters in the boardroom will just be ramping up.This summer will be absolutely pivotal to Leeds United’s hopes of staying in the top flight. While Bielsa has assembled a top quality side who stunned the Championship for much of the season, stepping up the Premier League is a completely different ball game. The gulf in class is huge, and that means that stepping into the transfer market Is a must for Victor Orta and the Yorkshire side.p1ee32aetahbbj0hdj217enfpj9.jpgSeveral key position have been identified as areas of improvement, one of which being the goalkeeper.Despite Illan Meslier completing a permanent move to Elland Road, it’s likely that the club will still be looking for a new stopper with Kiko Casilla’s future up in the air.The Spaniard faced a lengthy ban after being found guilty of making racist remarks against Jonathan Leko earlier in the season.p1ee32cav11m6619a41qlbqvg1e2sb.jpgThat effectively finished his season, and may well have finished his Leeds career too. That means that the search for a new stopper is underway, with a shock name emerging as an option.Sergio Romero of Manchester United isn’t a name that many would have expected to join the club this summer, but according to ESPN, he’s a target. While many wouldn’t believe that Leeds would be targeting a player of his status, the interest has been verified by Phil Hay who believes that he’s exactly the sort of player that Marcelo Bielsa is after.

Asked if Leeds were interested, Hay replied: “I know they like Martinez at Arsenal. Romero a similar fit.”

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

What a deal that would be.

Everyone knows that Leeds United mean business in the transfer market but this would be a seriously impressive deal.

With Kiko Casilla’s future up in the air it’s natural that a number of top quality goalkeepers would be linked, however to see Sergio Romero being named as a target is a surprise.

The experienced stopper would not be a cheap player to bring on board, and so it could be something of a gamble given their fresh status as a top flight side.

That said, they will need top quality players if they’re to make the step up and the Man United man would certainly fit into that category.
