Tottenham Hotspur are preparing for a big summer.

It’s been a disappointing season for the North London side who have fallen short of expectations in the Premier League.

Ahead of the final game of the season, Spurs find themselves in seventh place in the table with a possible finish of sixth being the best that they can hope for.

With Champions League football not on the cards, they face a difficult test to strengthen their squad.

As well as facing a potential struggle to keep hold of their star players, it may be difficult to sign the best players given their place outside of Europe’s elite competition.

But while some may be turned off to a move, Pierre-Emile Højbjerg continues to be linked.

Reports last week claimed that Spurs were close to agreeing a deal for the midfielder, despite interest from Everton.

The Southampton man has just 12 months remaining on his contract, but despite the speculation, the Saints’ boss Ralph Hasenhuttl says that he’s got no problem with the midfielder due to his professionalism.

Asked if he could see Hojbjerg moving on, the manager said: “I don’t know. I am not really using a lot of energy on this topic because my only goal is to find the right game plan for the weekend, to prepare my team.

"This is my job and all I have to do. All of the rest, there will be enough time after the game to speak about that. It is not something I really concentrated on."

Hasenhuttl added: “It is no problem for me. I never see him being unprofessional, he is focused for the weekend and knows we need him.

"This is the reason why he is focused so I have no issues."

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This certainly looks like a move that will happen.

Pierre-Emile Højbjerg has just 12 months remaining on his contract and it seems more than likely that Southampton will look to cash in.

While Everton are also keen, a move to Spurs is likely to be more appealing given their status as one of the Premier League’s top sides.

While they won’t be in the Champions League next season, they’ll have just one objective next term and that’ll be to finish in the top four.

Hojbjerg will no doubt be keen to play a part in that and so for me this a deal that is a case of ‘when’ rather than ‘if’.
