Kylian Mbappe's week has been one of highs and lows.

On Wednesday, he was named as EA Sports' FIFA 21 cover athlete, an honour that very few players have had.

But on Friday, he suffered a horror injury during Paris Saint-Germain's French Cup final win against Saint-Etienne and left the pitch in tears.

He was fouled by Loic Perrin, who was sent off for his challenge which caught Mbappe's ankle.

The French striker left the stadium on crutches and while it's unclear just how serious his injury is, it's unlikely he'll be back for PSG's Champions League quarter-final tie.

With the injury happening so soon after Mbappe was named as FIFA 21's cover star, fans are worried the infamous 'curse' is striking again.

If you're not familiar, there's an apparent trend that sees the footballer gracing FIFA's cover suffer bad luck.

But is the curse real? Judge for yourself.

First, let's throw it all the way back to 1998 when David Beckham featured on the cover of FIFA's Road to the World Cup game.

What did he do at that tournament? Get sent off for kicking out at Diego Simeone as England lost to Argentina. For the next four years, he was public enemy number one.

Fast forward to more recent times and Kaka could be seen as cursed. He was on the cover of FIFA 11 and it's fair to say his career really declined after that season.

Even more recently, Marco Reus fell victim to the curse, being named FIFA 17's cover star before featuring just 24 times over the course of the season due to injury.

The less said about Neymar, who was one of last year's cover athletes, the better.

Then, of course, there's FIFA 20's Eden Hazard. After securing his dream move to Real Madrid, the forward has suffered five injuries over the course of this campaign.

He's played just 21 times in all competitions, scoring just ONE goal. Hazard declared this season the worst of his career. Brutal.

With Mbappe suffering an injury just days after being announced as FIFA's cover athlete, there's no wonder fans are suggesting the curse has struck again. Let's just hope his injury isn't too serious.
