Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne is the best player in the Premier League right now.
The Citizens might have fallen 18 points short of champions Liverpool this season, but it wasn't down to a lack of effort from their star man in the heart of midfield.
In fact, De Bruyne can count himself unlucky to have not overtaken Thierry Henry's Premier League record for the most assists in a single season, instead drawing level with his tally of 20.
De Bruyne equals Premier League record
The mercurial Belgian turned provider for Raheem Sterling's 20th goal of the season on the final day to secure the Playmaker Award over Trent Alexander-Arnold by some distance.
But De Bruyne actually believes that he did indeed break Henry's record, opining in his post-match interview that the Premier League robbed him of two assists against Arsenal.
According to talkSPORT, De Bruyne remarked: "I have got two more. You guys took two away from me. I’m still claiming that one. For me I was already there [level with Henry’s record].”
Stunning individual season
However, De Bruyne has been doing much more than simply providing for goals because he's been scoring them as well and that couldn't have been more apparent than with his two screamers against Norwich.
Thirteen strikes overall in the Premier League is a staggering total for a central midfielder and saw him outscore the likes of Heung-min Son, Roberto Firmino and Alexandre Lacazette.
In other words, it's been a stunning season for the jewel in Pep Guardiola's crown and for our money, he's deserving of the PFA Player of the Year award over Liverpool stars like Jordan Henderson.

And if there's any doubt surrounding that fact, then a recent video compiling all of De Bruyne's goals and assists in the Premier League this season might sway fan opinion in his favour.
Aside from reiterating De Bruyne's status as the world's best passer, it also shows off his eye for a stunning goal and generally makes for a scintilating two-and-a-half minutes of football.

I love Henderson as much as the next football fan, trust me, but it's a no-brainer that De Bruyne has been the Premier League's best this season as far as I'm concerned.
In fact, I even gave six reasons why De Bruyne should defeat Henderson here.
The crux of the argument is proven in the average match ratings over at WhoScored.com with De Bruyne finishing number one in the competition, whereas Henderson winds up in 32nd.
But look, I'm well aware that statistics aren't everything and you can gauge a lot by simply looking at footage of the player, which couldn't be a better indicator in De Bruyne's case.
The fact of the matter is that anybody who loves football and the sport being played in a beautiful manner can't help but stand up and applaud the guy's genius. Fair play, Kevin, fair play.
