Barcelona have had a turbulent season both on and off the pitch.

They were pipped to the La Liga title by rivals Real Madrid earlier this month, which brings the curtain down on a poor campaign.

Reports that Lionel Messi is unhappy with coach Quique Setien and Barca's board have been circulating for the last few months, too.

If your star man - arguably greatest player of all time - has an issue with what's going on, you know you're in trouble.

With the Blaugrana preparing to resume their Champions League campaign against Napoli in August, they can't really afford any more distractions.

But apparently, Arthur Melo didn't get that memo.

According to Spanish paper AS, he's gone AWOL from the club without permission and has no intention of returning.

Arthur has gone AWOL from Barca

The midfielder - who will join Juventus ahead of next season - has secretly flown off to Brazil and confirmed over the phone that he won't be returning to finish the Champions League campaign.

Pretty crazy, right?

Following the conclusion of the La Liga season last weekend, Arthur took a holiday to Ibiza, which was allowed by Setien.

But following his short break, the midfielder returned to his homeland without permission and Barca only found out when he failed to turn up for training and scheduled coronavirus tests on Monday.

That sparked worry amongst the coaching staff, who confronted him over the phone, only to be told he won't be returning.

Barcelona are said to be furious with Arthur and have told him he's in breach of his contract, but the player seemingly doesn't care about repercussions and will remain absent until his move to Juve.

Barca are fuming with the midfielder

He will link up with the Serie A side in September, while Miralem Pjanic comes the other way - but it's expected he'll feature for Juventus in the Champions League next month.

Arthur's actions are hardly professional and he's left his club in a rather tough situation. What a turbulent year it's been at Barcelona.
