WWE news: How Vince McMahon really feels about Aleister Black

Aleister Black is in a weird situation in WWE.

The Netherlands-born wrestler has enjoyed genuine success in NXT, holding the NXT Championship and having exceptional matches against the likes of Andrade, Johnny Gargano, and Velveteen Dream.

However, he has been on the main roster since 2019, first coming up alongside Ricochet and wrestling in a tag team with the high flyer.

He split with him in April, and has sort of been spinning his wheels ever since.

A feud with Buddy Murphy began in November and may as well still be going on, with Black currently involved with the Australian and the Monday Night Messiah, Seth Rollins.

There was a break, involving a match with AJ Styles, but he really hasn’t been able to get his teeth into something special on the main roster yet.

And it appeared that Vince McMahon was set to stop his push last week.

SportsKeeda’s Tom Colohue reported that the boss felt there was “something missing about Aleister Black”, comparing his situation with that of Cesaro.

That, of course, is ominous, given that the Swiss Superman has only really been pushed as a tag team wrestler in WWE, while holding just one singles title throughout his career.

But talkSPORT have now brought us an update on the situation.

Alex McCarthy reports that McMahon is actually a big fan of Black, though he does hold concerns.

His sources state that McMahon “is a huge fan of the performer – and of Tommy. Size. Agility. Skill. But he is worried the character is a gimmick and will limit him.”

This doesn’t sound as terminal as Colohue perhaps made it out to be but we’ll have to wait and see if Vince insists on repackaging the Dutchman.

His character may be fading to black, after all.
