Rey Mysterio’s future is very much up in the air in WWE.

The world-famous luchador wrestled Seth Rollins in an Eye for an Eye match at Extreme Rules at the weekend and lost to the former Shield member.

The shocking ending to the match saw Seth apparently remove Rey’s eye, with the help of some camera trickery, before vomiting at ringside.

It may be that the reason for the match, and the finish, centred around the idea of allowing Rey to sort out his future in the company before reappearing on weekly television.

He had been wrestling without a contract and Dave Meltzer, of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, has now weighed in on his situation.

He reports, via Ringside News, that Mysterio is yet to sign a new contract, and that he is unsure when he will next be featured.

It does appear that the door is open for him, though, as his son Dominik was on this week’s Monday Night RAW.

He showed up to further the angle with Rollins and his stablemate Murphy, and he ended his segment standing tall, having beaten both of his rivals with a kendo stick.

It remains to be seen if WWE will push forward with their apparent plans for a match between Rollins and Dominik, and if Rey will still be with the company when they do.
