Chelsea are knowingly in the market for a new left-back.
Both Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri have flattered to deceive under Frank Lampard and it's been clear for a while that the Blues require serious investment in the department.
There's no point splashing the cash on Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech if the team are still going to leak goals from the left-hand side of defence.
As such, Leicester City's Ben Chilwell has been a name consistently linked with a move to Stamford Bridge this summer.
The England international is revered as one of the best left-backs in the Premier League and is now a regular in Gareth Southgate's England squad.
But with Chilwell's current contract at Leicester expiring in 2024, acquiring the attack-minded defender won't be easy for Chelsea unless the player takes matters into his own hands.
And that's exactly what the 23-year-old is planning to do. As reported by the Mirror, Chilwell will tell Leicester this week that he wants to quit the club and leave for Chelsea.
He's made it clear that he sees his long-term future in west London and apparently his decision is not based on Leicester's failure to qualify for the Champions League.
We find that kind of hard to believe, but you can't fault his ambition to pursue a move to one of Europe's biggest clubs.
What is more, he will be a guaranteed starter under Lampard.
The situation will likely follow a similar path to that of Harry Maguire last summer, with the centre-back eventually joining Manchester United in an £80m deal.
Brendan Rodgers will be adamant that Chilwell is not for sale, but once the club realise the player is desperate to leave they will listen to Chelsea's offer.
Given the financial power of the Blues right now, they will no doubt cough up the cash required to convince Leicester to sell.
