What an incredible season Alphonso Davies has had at Bayern Munich.

The Canadian’s journey has been quite remarkable.

His parents, both from Liberia, fled the country during the second Liberian Civil war.

They settled in Ghana where Davies was born in a refugee camp in 2000.

But they soon moved to Canada as refugees where Davies started playing football. At 14, he was spotted by Vancouver Whitecaps and, from that moment on, there was no stopping him.

At 15 years and three months, he became the youngest player to sign to a United Soccer League (USL) contract. He made his debut two months later in May 2016, becoming the youngest ever goalscorer in the USL in June.

He was then called up to the first-team, making his MLS debut at the age of 15 years and eight months - the second youngest player ever in the league.

But Davies was far too good for the MLS and, within three seasons, attracted the interest of major European clubs.

Bayern Munich won the race for his signature and coughed up €22 million for the then 17-year-old.

After making his debut in January 2019, he has shown everyone just how talented he really is - and how quick he is! In his 29 Bundesliga appearances this season, he’s scored three goals, registered four assists and established himself as one of the best full-backs in world football.

That’s not us saying he’s one of the best full-backs in world football. That’s the opinion of the man himself by the way…

Asked by 90min to name the top five full-backs in the world, Davies said: “[Achraf] Hakimi is one of them. I really like how Benji [Pavard] plays, scoring goals and getting assists, so those two.

"Trent Alexander-Arnold definitely and I really like [Bukayo] Saka from Arsenal. He's a really good player.

“And me too!"

You’re well worth a place, Alphonso!

Davies was originally a winger but has since been converted to a marauding left-back. And when asked what his prefered position is now, he insisted he's comfortable in defence.

"Right now, definitely left-back. I like the position, I like how everything is going well with my centre-back partners," Davies said.
