Leeds United fans are the envy of every supporter in the country right now.

After securing promotion from the Sky Bet Championship, the West Yorkshire side face the exciting challenge of preparing for life back in the top flight.

The Whites endured a 16-year exile from the Premier League in which they were very much lost in the wilderness, but now fans can look forward to pitting their wits against the biggest and best clubs in the country.

But despite winning the league, Leeds still face an uphill battle to be ready for when the new season starts on September 12.

If Marcelo Bielsa's side are to stay up next term then it's likely that they'll need to strengthen in the transfer market.

It's unlikely that Leeds will make wholesale changes to their playing squad, but a handful of new additions will certainly help them adapt to life in the top tier.

After all, there's a massive gulf in class between the top two divisions and that's not something that Leeds United should take lightly.

While a number of players have already been linked, it's the interest in John Swift that could be stepping up.

Reports from Yorkshire Live are claiming that Leeds are certainly keen in the Reading man.

While it's claimed that Sheffield United are still in the driving seat to sign the 25-year-old, Marcelo Bielsa is also said to be keen after being described as a keen admirer of the playmaker.

However it's not only the two Yorkshire rivals who are keen.

It's also claimed that Aston Villa are lining up a move.

With Jack Grealish being heavily linked with a move away, the report claims that Dean Smith sees Swift as an ideal replacement for the Manchester United target.

But with the Blades still seen as favourites, it'll be interesting to see how this one develops.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

A move for John Swift would be great for Leeds United.

The Reading man has consistently been a top performer for Reading, and this term has been one of the most influential players in the Championship.

With the Royals under pressure to cash in, it seems that Swift will be available for a cut-price fee of around £5m.

Marcelo Bielsa favours a certain profile of player, with each member of his squad needing a real technical ability as well as a strong work ethic and stamina level to carry out his system.

John Swift certainly has that with the tireless midfielder endearing himself to the Reading fans for his work ethic.

It could be hard for Leeds to beat Sheffield United to his signature, but if they convince him then this could be a very shrewd deal indeed.
