Leeds United fans are going to absolutely love the next few weeks.

After securing promotion from the Championship, the Whites are looking ahead to a long-overdue return to England's top flight.

Finishing the season as champions and 10 points clear of second-place West Brom was a huge statement, and the hope is that Marcelo Bielsa's side can carry that momentum into life in the Premier League.

Leeds have been waiting 16 years to get back to the promised land, and you just know that they're not going to take the opportunity lightly.

If the Whites are to compete next term then they'll need to strengthen, and that's exactly what Bielsa and director of football Victor Orta will be working on ahead of the new season's start date.

Several positions are being tipped as areas to strengthen, but one of the biggest priorities is surely between the sticks.

Kiko Casilla was the club's first choice stopper last term, but after being found guilty of making racist remarks against Jonathan Leko in the early stages of the season he was handed a lengthy suspension that all-but ended his involvement in the promotion race.

That paved the way for Illan Meslier to step up to the first team.

The 20-year-old certainly took that opportunity by conceding just four goals as he started 10 of Leeds United's last 11 games in the Championship.

With Casilla's future likely to be away from Elland Road and Meslier seen as one for the future, it seems that a first choice goalkeeper will be a priority.

Reports from Phil Hay of The Athletic has claimed that Arsenal's Emiliano Martinez is a player who Leeds have held a 'long-standing interest' in, while Sergio Romero of Manchester United is also heavily linked.

Both players would provide real experience to Marcelo Bielsa's squad, and would be a real signal of intent.

It just remains to be seen whether the Whites can strike such a deal.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

Emilano Martinez would be a great signing for Leeds United.

The 27-year-old has enjoyed a run of games in the Arsenal starting XI of late and has really impressed over the last 11 games.

Such have been the level of his performances, some have called for him to become Mikel Arteta's first choice stopper next term.

That includes the Spaniard himself who described Martinez as 'phenomenal' and 'ready to be a Premier League number one'.

As far as Leeds are concerned, this could make a deal fairly hard to complete due to how highly thought of he is at the Emirates Stadium.

As for Sergio Romero, his opportunities for Manchester United are likely to be limited and so this could be a more plausible deal.

He may be in the final years of his career, but the Argentine still has plenty to offer and would be an excellent addition for Marcelo Bielsa.
