Carlo Ancelotti's Everton reign has been a tale of two parts.

When he first walked into the club, he transformed the Toffees for the better. Results improved and he was getting a huge amount out of Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The young forward scored 13 times this season but like his side, dropped off after the restart.

Despite beating Leicester and drawing with Liverpool, the Merseysiders won only three of their final nine matches once football returned.

It was a shoddy record, one that will need instant improvement heading into the new season.

Ancelotti's desire for Everton is one that sees them competing in Europe. A league finish of 12th certainly isn't good enough and is miles away from where they need to be.

There were a number of issues at Goodison this term, but one of the biggest happened to be in midfield.

The output they got in an attacking sense from that part of the pitch was abysmal - just nine goals were scored by their midfielders and wingers.

Perhaps the addition of Everton Soares could help?

The Toffees have been linked with a switch for the Brazil international already this summer but a recent report from A Bola (via Sport Witness) suggests they're still very much in the hunt.

Should Marcel Brands pursue their interest further, then he's set to cost the club a fee of €25m (£22.4m).

That represents a bargain fee for a modern footballer, especially one as bright as the 23-year-old.

Benfica are also in the race to sign the forward but could have problems acquiring him if Premier League interest increases.

Everton in action for Gremio

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

The winger's stock has fallen considerably in recent years.

He's gone from a potential move to Manchester City or Manchester United to possibly linking up with Everton.

No disrespect to the Merseysiders, but they simply aren't in the same bracket of club.

That being said, the Brazilian is one of the most exciting players in South America at the moment. Everton racked up 15 goals and added seven assists to his attacking numbers in 2019, but it's his dribbling that's most eye-catching.

Everton with Neymar and Coutinho

Goal claimed that he was reminiscent of Neymar, detailing the way he loves to drift in from the left-hand side. Though, his mesmeric dribbling ability is also comparable.

Everton managed 3.1 dribbles per game last year, a remarkable tally.

Described as a "special talent" by Fortaleza president Marcelo Paz, he'd be an astute capture for his price tag.

After all, Everton need more dynamic players behind their main strikers. The Gremio star would surely solve that problem.
