Paris Saint-Germain were crowned winners of the 2020 Coupe de la Ligue on Friday evening after beating Lyon on penalties. The Parisians have completed a domestic quadruple, adding France’s league cup trophy to their Ligue 1 and Coupe de France titles. They also won the Trophée des Champions - France’s equivalent of England’s Community Shield. They will be desperate to make it five trophies this season by also adding the Champions League to their collection. Thomas Tuchel’s side take on Atalanta in the quarter-finals.This was the last ever Coupe de la Ligue final. It was announced last September that the competition would be abolished at the end of the season. It was reported at the time that a lack of bids for the competition’s TV rights forced the decision. The final itself was rather disappointing. No goals were scored in normal time or the 30 minutes of extra-time.But there was some late drama when former Manchester United right-back Rafael was sent off for a challenge on fellow ex-Red Devil Angel Di Maria.

The match then went to penalties, and the responsibility to keep PSG’s hopes of winning the trophy alive fell on Neymar’s shoulders.

Lyon scored all of their first five penalties, meaning Neymar *had* to score past Anthony Lopes.

The Brazilian showed he has ice running through his veins.

He took a deep breath and then finally, after spending 10 seconds on his unorthodox run-up, dispatched the perfect penalty into the bottom corner of the net.

Neymar took a few steps to his left, staggered his run-up and then stroked the ball past the Lyon goalkeeper.

PSG goalkeeper Keylor Navas then saved from Bertrand Traore before Pablo Sarabia scored the decisive spot-kick to win PSG yet another trophy.

Neymar and his teammates, including the injured Kylian Mbappe, then celebrated their latest trophy triumph.
