FA Cup final 2020: Arsenal and Chelsea's top 10 players ever ranked

Arsenal and Chelsea will go head-to-head in the delayed FA Cup final on Saturday afternoon.

This weekend is usually reserved for the Community Shield, but the coronavirus pandemic has pushed the 2019-20 campaign’s remaining fixtures back to August.

Arsenal reached the final thanks to a rather unexpected 2-0 victory over Manchester City on July 18.

Two goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sent the Gunners through to their fourth final since 2014.

Chelsea, meanwhile, advanced to the final after beating Manchester United on July 19.

Ahead of the 139th FA Cup final, fans have been voting for the players they believe are the best in the histories of these two historic London clubs over on Ranker.com.

Let’s see how they’ve voted…

10. Michael Essien

One of the best Premier League midfielders of his era, Essien was a force of nature in the middle of the pitch for Chelsea following his arrival from Lyon in 2005.

9. N’Golo Kante

What an unbelievable signing the Frenchman has been. After winning the title with Leicester in 2016, Kante completed a £32 million move to Stamford Bridge and immediately hit the ground running, winning the Premier League Player of the Season in his maiden campaign with the Blues.

8. Claude Makelele

So good, a position was named after him. Not many footballers can boast that. Makelele helped Chelsea win the 2004-05 and 2005-06 Premier League titles, as well as the 2006-07 FA Cup.

7. Ashley Cole

The greatest left-back of the Premier League era, Cole completed a controversial transfer from Arsenal in 2006 and went on to lift plenty of silverware, including four FA Cups, the Premier League and the Champions League.

6. Gianfranco Zola

A magician with the ball at his feet, Zola lit up the Bridge between 1996-2003.

5. Petr Cech

Cech is certainly in the conversation when it comes to the debate over the best ever Premier League goalkeeper. He was phenomenal for Chelsea, making 333 appearances over an 11-year period.

4. John Terry

Mr. Chelsea. Captain, leader, legend. Terry was inspirational for the Blues and it’s a little surprising to see him outside the top three of this list.

3. Eden Hazard

One of the most talented players in Chelsea’s history, Hazard was magnificent for the Blues between 2012-2019. When he joined Real Madrid in a deal worth £100 million, he left Chelsea with the best wishes of every supporter.

2. Frank Lampard

Chelsea’s all-time leading goalscorer - which is some achievement considering he played in midfield - Lampard netted 211 goals between 2001-2014 and produced countless match-winning performances during that period.

1. Didier Drogba

One of football’s genuine big-game players, Drogba always seemed to produce the goods when it mattered most. His heroics in the 2012 Champions League final cemented his status as one of Chelsea’s true legends.

10. Marc Overmars

A great footballer, yes, but it’s surprising to see Overmars in the top 10 over the likes of Liam Brady, Charlie George and David Rocastle. As this is an online poll, we’ll assume a lot more younger fans voted.

9. Sol Campbell

A colossal centre-back, Tottenham fans still haven’t forgiven Campbell for joining their fiercest rivals back in 2001. The former England defender helped the Gunners win two Premier League titles and two FA Cups.

8. Freddie Ljungberg

Named Man of the Match in the 2002 FA Cup final against Chelsea after scoring a memorable goal, Ljungberg enjoyed nine highly successful years with Arsenal.

7. David Seaman

One of Arsenal and England’s greatest ever goalkeepers, Seaman spent 13 years with the Gunners between 1990-2003.

6. Tony Adams

We thought Tony Adams would be higher up this list. The legendary Arsenal captain has a statue of his iconic celebration outside the Emirates.

5. Ian Wright

The second-highest goalscorer in Arsenal’s history, Ian Wright bagged an impressive 188 goals in 288 appearances for the Gunners.

4. Robert Pires

Pires spent six years with Arsenal in the early-2000s and made a huge impact, scoring 87 goals and playing a starring role in the club’s 2001-02 and 2003-04 title triumphs, as well as the FA Cup victories in 2003 and 2005.

3. Patrick Vieira

One of the greatest midfielders of the Premier League era, Vieira scored the winning penalty against Manchester United in the 2005 FA Cup final.

2. Dennis Bergkamp

The gifted Dutchman is arguably the most talented footballer that Arsenal have ever had. Anyone who watched him between 1995-2006 will say the same thing: the guy was a genius.

1. Thierry Henry

The best player of the Premier League era - for our money, at least - Henry was on a different level between 2000-2006.

Arsenal’s all-time top scorer netted 228 goals during two unforgettable spells with the north London outfit.
