Heavyweight boxing seems to be the talking point for every fight fan with the highly anticipated bout between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury on the horizon.

This superfight has reignited the argument of the best heavyweight in the division.

Boxing experts at Ring Magazine are constantly swapping and changing their rankings and with one of the biggest fights in the history of the heavyweight division not too far away, they have named Tyson Fury as their number one in the division.

Ring magazine have also named their other top 10 boxers in the division, some which may surprise you.

10. Kubrat Pulev

Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev is an experienced heavyweight with only one loss to his name. He held the European heavyweight title twice between 2012 and 2016 and is still loitering about the division waiting for the big fight he deserves.

His only loss came to a highly respectable opponent in Wladimir Klitschko.

His biggest win to date came against Derek Chisora, via split decision, many considering this one of his best performances.

Pulev’s record is currently 28 wins and one loss.

9. Oscar Rivas

Rivas is a Colombian-born fighter who also only has one loss to his name. This lost came via unanimous decision at the hands of Dillian Whyte back in 2019.

His current record is 26 wins and one loss.

8. Michael Hunter

Michael Hunter has a record of 18 wins, one loss and one draw. His only loss came via unanimous decision, losing to Oleksander Usyk, albeit not in the heavyweight division.

Hunter is an exciting fighter and in his most recent fight, drew to Alexander Povetkin, a draw which gained him a lot of respect from fans and experts alike.

Hunter is one of the least experienced heavyweights on the list, having only 20 professional fights to his name.

7. Joseph Parker

Joseph Parker is a well-respected fighter in the heavyweight division and has had his fair share of big fights.

Parker has two losses against his name, however, these both came against two of the biggest boys in the division in Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte.

Despite these two losses, Parker has won his other 27 fights he has participated in.

6. Alexander Povetkin

Alexander Povetkin currently sits on a healthy record of 35 wins, two losses and one draw.

Povetkin has only lost to AJ and Klitschko in his very decorated career.

Povetkin has a very important fight in terms of his career scheduled for the 22nd of this month against fellow world-class heavyweight Dillian Whyte.

If the Russian manages to put Whyte away, this will surely see him move up this list, potentially even break into the top four of Ring Magazine’s top 10 heavyweights.

5. Luis Ortiz

Luis Ortiz is a very exciting fighter and is unlucky not to be higher up on this list.

Perhaps the reasons for this placing are his defeats to Deontay Wilder. The Cuban has lost to the Bronze Bomber twice, the only two losses that he has on his record.

King Kong has had a fully fledged career and has seen off some very good boxers, however, when the superfights have come knocking, like the fights with Wilder, they have seemed too good for the southpaw.

Another stain on Ortiz’s career was the failed drug test after his scrap with Lateef Kayode in late 2014.

4. Deontay Wilder

This might be a placing that confuses you, Wilder only the fourth best in the division seems hard to fathom, however, seems reasonable when you take into account his struggle facing Tyson Fury.

Wilder was looking truly unbeatable with a 42-0-0 record until the Gypsy King came into the picture.

Tyson Fury drew with the Bronze Bomber in their first fight, a controversial decision which fuelled Fury’s fire, a visible fire as he come back and knocked the American out in their second outing.

Despite the Fury fights, Wilder has been incredible shutting down most other heavyweights who were considered a threat.

With the trilogy fight with Fury scheduled, it will be interesting to see if Wilder can bounce back and take revenge.

3. Dillian Whyte

This is another placing that might confuse some fight fans, but you have to bear in mind that Whyte only has one loss to his name, that of course coming in dramatic fashion to that man Anthony Joshua.

Whether Whyte is a better boxer than Wilder is a debate for another day, however, one thing is for sure, since that defeat to Joshua, Whyte has been absolute class.

He has beaten Derek Chisora twice, Oscar Rivas and Joseph Parker, and if he manages to polish Alexander Povetkin off towards the end of this month, a fight with Wilder can’t be too far away, surely.

The Body Snatcher’s record is currently 27 wins and one loss.

2. Anthony Joshua

Anthony Joshua is a man who needs no introduction.

Although not facing Wilder or Fury as of yet, he has managed to beat almost every other star the division has to offer, despite it taking him a second go at Andy Ruiz Jr.

There is not much separating Joshua and Fury in the eyes of most boxing experts, despite the one loss more of Joshua’s record than Fury’s.

Despite Joshua’s original loss to Ruiz, that was a blessing in disguise in the eyes of some fight fans, as Joshua came out in the second fight and put on an absolute boxing masterclass.

Joshua currently sits on a record of 23 wins and one loss, also with a staggering 87.5% KO percentage.

1. Tyson Fury

The Gypsy King; the only man on the list who is unbeaten.

After dismantling Wilder in the second bout, the only fight that was on the cards for the Englishman was Joshua.

Fury has beaten the same sort of opponents as Joshua, although he has beaten Wilder, something that Joshua has not.

Another thing that people often gloss over is that Fury has also beaten Klitschko.

Also, this wasn’t the same one foot out of the division Klitschko Joshua fought, this was a fitter and harder Klitschko that Fury managed to beat.

Despite the highly anticipated bout on the horizon, Ring Magazine have spoken and they think it is the Gypsy King who takes the crown of best heavyweight boxer in the division.
