It's going to be a huge summer for Arsenal.

Few can dispute that it's been a torrid season for the Gunners who have struggled to meet their usually high standards this term.

An eighth place finish in the Premier League is way below expectations, and you know that such a lowly finish will simply not be tolerated in seasons to come.

That said you have to give credit where it's due.

The North London side have been in disarray in recent years but following the appointment of Mikel Arteta it seems that things are starting to click into place.

Saturday's FA Cup victory over Chelsea was a big indicator that things are moving in the right direction, and as well as qualifying for the Europa League, it was a big signal of intent ahead of the new campaign.

A big task that the head coach will have to undertake is a full assessment of the playing squad.

Several players are likely to be deemed surplus to requirements, while keeping the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the club is going to be a tricky task.

Incoming deals are also going to be key, with Arsenal likely to need experience to compete next term.

One player who has been heavily linked is Willian.

The Chelsea man is out of contract this summer and is being tipped for a move to the Emirates Stadium.

While the Gunners are among the favourites to sign him, reports from Esporte Interativo, as quoted by Sport Witness, claim that no official offer has yet been made.

The Blues are still claimed to be in talks over a potential extension to his deal, while Barcelona have also been linked.

Where the Brazilian will end up next term is up for debate, but there certainly appears to be no shortage of interest in his services.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

With the amount of interest in him, Willian's ego is going to be out of control.

Despite being 31 years of age, the Brazilian showed exactly why he's so in-demand with a strong year for Chelsea where he scored 11 goals and created nine for his teammates.

There's no question that top clubs are wanting to sign him, the issue is more around his demands of a three-year contract wherever he goes next.

That would take him to the age of 34, and with all due respect it's only natural that his ability could decline in the coming years.

That's why clubs may be reluctant to offer him a lucrative salary over a three-year period when his ability might not justify it.

With this likely to be the last major contract of Willian's career you can certainly see it from his point of view, it's just a case of seeing what sort of compromise can be made.

After all, whoever gets the Brazilian will be getting a top player both on and off the pitch.
