Maurizio Sarri will be worried about the form of his Juventus side ahead of their meeting with Lyon in the Champions League.

The Bianconeri were crowned Serie A champions for the ninth consecutive season last Sunday thanks to a 2-0 win at home to Sampdoria.

But Juve followed up that title-winning victory with two consecutive losses against Cagliari at home to AS Roma last night.

There's no denying it, the Italian champions are hopelessly out of form, winning just two of their final eight Serie A games of the season.

As such, Sarri's side have now posted the worst statistics of any Juve title-winning side from the past nine seasons.

Is Sarri the right man for Juve?

Below, we've provided the key stats from Juve's underwhelming 2019/20 campaign compared with their eight previous triumphs, per Goal.

  • Worst points haul (83 points)
  • Conceded more goals (43 goals)
  • Recorded their worst goal difference (+33)
  • Highest number of defeats (7)
  • Smallest final points gap between top two (1 point)

Not great is it? But wait, we've saved the best for last.

That's because Juve actually set a very unwanted record during the 2019/20 season, dropping more points from winning positions that any other champion in Italian football history.

Sarri on the touchline

Their total of 21 points dropped beat the previous record of 20 set by Roma way back in 1982/83.

Questions will be asked over whether Sarri is the right man to take this Juventus team forward and help secure the one trophy that has eluded the club for so many years - the Champions League.

Juve are currently 1-0 down in their last-16 tie against Lyon and their form going into the second leg suggests they will struggle to overturn the deficit in Turin.

They will no doubt turn to their main man Cristiano Ronaldo to bail them out once again, with the Portuguese superstar scoring 31 of the club's 76 Serie A goals in 2019/20.

You have to wonder; where would Juve be without their 35-year-old talisman?
