The conclusion of Serie A at the weekend saw the 2019/20 European domestic season finally come to an end almost 12 months after it started.

It also saw Ciro Immobile crowned the winner of the European Golden Shoe after his 36 league goals for Serie A.

The European Golden Shoe is an award given to the top goalscorer in domestic matches from the top division of every European national league in a single season.

Goals scored in the top five leagues according to the UEFA coefficients list are multiplied by two, goals scored in the leagues ranked six to 21 are multiplied by 1.5, and goals scored in leagues ranked 22 and below are multiplied by one.

If players are tied on points, the player(s) who played the fewest number of minutes ranks higher.

While we know Immobile got the better of the likes of Lewandowski, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, how do the final rankings look?

21 | Wissam Ben Yedder | Monaco | 36 points

20 | Alexander Sorloth | Trabzonspor | 36 points

Crystal Palace could do with Sorloth back as he bagged 24 goals in 34 matches for Turkish side Trabzonspor.

19 | Christian Gytkjaer | Lech Poznan | 36 points

Twenty four goals in 34 appearances for 30-year-old Danish striker Gytkjær.

18 | Patson Daka | Red Bull Salzburg | 36 points

21-year-old Zambian Daka could be the next talent to be plucked from RB Salzburg after his 24 goals in 31 matches.

17 | Kylian Mbappe | PSG | 36 points

Mbappe managed 18 goals in 20 games for PSG in Ligue 1 this season before it was cancelled.

15 | Raheem Sterling | Manchester City | 40 points

Sterling finished the season on fire and his tally of 20 strikes is a career-best.

Benzema was one of the best players in La Liga this season as his 21 goals helped Real Madrid win the title.

13 | Francesco Caputo | US Sassuolo | 42 points

The 32-year-old bagged 21 goals in 35 matches which saw his Sassuolo finish a very respectable eighth.

12 | Danny Ings | Southampton | 44 points

What a season Ings had for Southampton as he notched 22 goals to help the Saints finish midtable.

No Premier League Golden Boot for Aubameyang but he will be satisfied with 22 strikes despite his Arsenal side finishing eighth.

10 | Shon Weissman | Wolfsberger | 45 points

Weissman scored 30 goals in 31 league appearances this season for Austrian side Wolfsberger AC. Unfortunately for him, his tally can only be multiplied by 1.5, rather than 2.

9 | Jean-Pierre Nsame | Young Boys | 45 points

Nsame went one better than Weissman in the fact he notched 30 in just 30 matches for Young Boys in Switzerland. The Cameroonian’s goals helped his side beat St. Gallen to the league title.

8 | Romelu Lukaku | Inter Milan | 46 points

Lukaku left Manchester United and was magnificent during his debut Inter Milan season, scoring 23 goals as they finished just one point behind Juventus.

7 | Jamie Vardy | Leicester | 46 points

The 33-year-old became the oldest player to win the Premier League Golden Boot with his 23 goals in 35 games. Sadly, it wasn’t enough to guide his Leicester side into the Champions League.

6 | Erling Haaland | Borussia Dortmund | 48 points

Haaland followed up his 16 goals in 14 appearances for RB Salzburg earlier in the season with 13 in 15 for Borussia Dortmund.

5 | Lionel Messi | Barcelona | 48 points

The winner of the previous three editions could ‘only’ score 24 goals this season for Barcelona as they lost out to Real Madrid.

4 | Timo Werner | RB Leipzig | 56 points

Get excited, Chelsea fans.

Werner managed 28 goals as he helped Leipzig finish third in the Bundesliga this season. He did that in just 34 matches.

3 | Cristiano Ronaldo | Juventus | 62 points

Ronaldo hasn’t won this award since the 2014/15 season but the 35-year-old went close this campaign with an impressive 31 goals in 33 games. It wasn’t enough to land the Serie A top goalscorer award, though…

2 | Robert Lewandowski | Bayern Munich | 68 points

Poor old Lewandowski. In a normal season, scoring 34 goals in 31 games would be enough to land you the European Golden Shoe and put you in contention for the Ballon d’Or.

1 | Ciro Immobile | Lazio | 72 points

Well played, Ciro.

The 31-year-old finished with an incredible 36 goals in 37 appearances for fourth-placed Lazio and wins the 2019/20 European Golden Shoe.
