It's an incredibly exciting time to be a supporter of Leeds United.

After a 16-year exile from the top flight Marcelo Bielsa has brought the joy back to Elland Road in emphatic fashion.

The football that Leeds have produced has been a joy to behold, with fast-faced, entertaining football leading to a wonderful run of results.

The Whites were runaway leaders in the Sky Bet Championship and were crowned champions with a 10-point buffer on second-place West Brom.

But while results were easy to come by in the second tier, things will be completely different next season.

The difference in quality between the Premier League and the Championship is huge, and that means that Leeds will need to be suitably equipped with players who can cut it among the worlds' best players.

But based on the latest reports, it seems that Victor Orta is aiming high with his recruitment.

According to Transfer 20, Leeds are targeting an audacious move for William Carvalho.

The 28-year-old could be available for £22.5million this summer after a mixed season for Real Betis where he was limited to just 13 appearances in La Liga.

Valued at £14.4million by Transfermarkt, the defensive midfielder is attracting plenty of interest from the Premier League, with Tottenham Hotspur and Wolves also said to be keen.

Carvalho joined Betis in 2018 from Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon.

It's not the first time that the Portugal international has been linked with a move to the Premier League.

In 2017 the midfielder was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal after an impressive season with Sporting Lisbon.

It was then that he was likened to Patrick Vieira due to his tall stature and technique on the ball.

While that move didn't materialise, it certainly shows that he could have what it takes to play in the English top flight.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This could be a very impressive signing if Leeds United could pull it off.

William Carvalho is a player who has been linked with a move to some of the biggest clubs in the world in recent years.

While those deals haven't come off, it's still a huge indicator of just how highly he is regarded in the football world.

Leeds will need to improve the level of quality within their squad and a move for the 28-year-old would certainly do that.

Carvalho is in his prime at the moment, and that means that a deal could be perfect with the midfielder seemingly ready to hit the ground running.

Of course a lot would depend on competition for his signature.

Spurs and Wolves would surely be favourites to secure the player, but if Marcelo Bielsa could offer assurances over regular first team football then there's few players who would turn down a move to Elland Road.

It might be a bit of a long shot but this is definitely a deal that is worth watching.
