It's gearing up to be a tricky summer for Newcastle United.

With talk of a takeover doing the rounds it seems that much of what goes on will depend on the decisions made at boardroom level.

Amanda Staveley's Saudi-backed consortium were expected to complete a deal to buy the club for £300million, but withdrew their interest last week.

While there's interest from elsewhere, those enquiries are in the early stages and so attention at St James' Park has to be on preparing the side for the new season.

Plenty of positions are being tipped as areas to improve - one of which being at left back.

Danny Rose is a player who has been heavily linked following his loan spell with the club last term, but based on a revealing interview, it seems that the former England defender has his sights set on a second chance with parent club Tottenham Hotspur.

Speaking to the Second Captains podcast, Rose said: "I am very happy to stay at Tottenham and see my last 10 or 11 months out, I would love to. There is nothing I want more than to play one more time in front of the fans," he said.

"My last game for Spurs was a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool and at the time I didn't know that was going to be or could be my last game for Spurs.

"I want nothing more than to play in front of the Tottenham fans one more time, just to cherish all the moments we have had over the years with them.

"They have always been good to me, I have possibly given them reasons in the past not to be so good to me, but they know when it was game time I gave everything for them.

"I will continue to do that as long as I am contracted to Tottenham.

"For me, I couldn't stress it enough, I would love nothing more than to play one last time for Tottenham and just be able to say goodbye to them and thank them for everything they have done for me as a person as a player.

"Ultimately, as good as I am or was is because of the love they gave me. I am very relaxed, it is off season now before it all starts again in a few weeks.

"I will just have to wait and see but for me I would love nothing more than to play for those fans once again."

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

Hearing this will certainly be a blow for Newcastle United fans.

Supporters enjoyed having Danny Rose at St James' Park with plenty hoping that he could join the club on a permanent basis.

But based on this his sights seem to be set on a stay in London.

While his ambitions could be the end of the road, a lot depends on Jose Mourinho's intentions.

The Spurs boss allowed Rose to leave in January and so there's no guarantee that he is seen as part of Mourinho's plans.

Should that be the case, Rose may not get his wish of staying with the club, and be moved on anyway.

If that happens then perhaps the door will open once more for Newcastle United.
