Leeds United supporters are in their element right now.

After securing promotion from the Sky Bet Championship the fans are absolutely on top of the world, and rightly so.

Winning the league in such emphatic style was huge, but with the season now behind them attention must turn to the mammoth task ahead.

Surviving in the Premier League will not be easy, and if Leeds are to do so then they'll need to strengthen.

Scoring goals is the thing that most find hardest in the top flight, and that's why the Whites look to be targeting a new attacker this summer.

Reports from The Athletic have claimed that Brentford striker Ollie Watkins will be targeted this summer, but only if the Bees miss out on promotion.

It's claimed that the forward has an £18million release clause in his deal, and according to Leeds pundit Noel Whelan, a move for Watkins would tick all of the boxes.

Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan said: "I really hope that Fulham can do the job on Tuesday so we can have him at Leeds United.

“When you look at his age, his attributes and the season that he has had, anywhere in and around the £18million region would be a good price.

“He is a really, really special player.

"He has been converted from a winger into a centre-forward and that is not easy to do. That is a difficult task because you need a different skill set but he can hold the ball, he has pace, strength and is clinical in front of goal.

“He knows where the back of the net is and those sort of players cost money.“

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

All eyes are on the play-off final.

Leeds United are determined to sign a new forward and Ollie Watkins has proven himself to be a complete striker.

If they can pull off a deal it would be a massive coup.

Of course it will be incredibly hard to sign the former Exeter man if Brentford get promoted at Wembley Stadium.

However if Fulham come out on top then it could be a different story.

Watkins has already shown that he's ready to step up to the top flight, and should the Bees miss out I'm sure that there'll be interest in his services.

Scoring 26 goals in a season is not easy, and that means that the player has really kicked on this term.

Leeds would certainly benefit from a player of his quality and so this is certainly one to watch.
