Marcelo Bielsa expected to pen new Leeds United deal, says Phil Hay

Leeds United supporters can hardly wait for September to roll around.

After 16 years in the wilderness of the English Football League, the Whites are finally back where they traditionally belong.

Few can argue that the Yorkshire side are one of the biggest clubs in England, but after spending so long out of the top tier they have a lot to prove.

But based on performances over the last two years they're certainly on the right track.

After narrowly missing out on promotion in 2019, Leeds ensured that they didn't make the same mistake again as they dominated the Championship to go up as league winners.

While the players obviously deserve credit, there's one man who has been the mastermind behind it all.

Marcelo Bielsa has been an absolute game-changer since coming to Elland Road.

Few would have anticipated that he'd have the sort of reaction that he did, but that just goes to show how crucial he will be to Leeds moving forward.

It's that feeling that makes Phil Hay's latest update even more eye catching for supporters.

The Athletic reporter is the go-to man for Leeds United news and after being asked about the future of the Argentine head coach, Hay offered a reassuring piece of news.

Asked about Bielsa's future, Hay tweeted: "(There is) not too much to tell at the moment.

"Bielsa contracts always take time but everyone expects it to get done."

Hay also hinted that a move to sign Jack Harrison on loan could be finalised soon.

The Manchester City man has spent the last two campaigns on loan at Elland Road, but looks set to agree a third with a view to a permanent deal.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This would be absolutely massive for Leeds United.

The impact that Marcelo Bielsa has on the club is nothing short of sensational, and that really shouldn't be underestimated.

As well as being a strong motivator and tactician, the most impressive part is surely the work that he's done to improve the players in his squad.

The likes of Luke Ayling, Ben White, Stuart Dallas, Jack Harrison and Patrick Bamford have all improved significantly under his leadership, while Kalvin Phillips has transformed from a decent prospect to a future England international.

That is down to the work that Bielsa has put into him, and that just shows how he operates as a coach.

The Argentine won't be at Elland Road forever, but if Leeds can convince him to stay even for another two or three seasons then it's nearly guaranteed that they'll be stronger for it.
