Rangers have been busy in the summer transfer window.

Fresh from beating Aberdeen on the opening weekend of the season, the Gers have been making moves to strengthen Steven Gerrard’s squad.

The club confirmed a double signing on August 4th, as they secured Cedric Itten from Swiss club FC St Gallen for an undisclosed fee, and also brought Kemar Roofe back to British football.

They secured the signing of the former Leeds United man from Anderlecht, and he has signed a four-year contract at Ibrox.

The signings are clearly designed to help the club stop Celtic securing their 10th successive Scottish Premiership title.

And it appears that Rangers have splashed the cash to acquire Roofe’s signature.

A former Championship ace, he scored 33 goals and provided 14 assists for Leeds during his three-year spell at Elland Road.

It makes sense, then, that the Gers have pushed the boat out.

And Football Insider reports that they have spent over £10 million to bring the 27-year-old into the club.

They are set to pay Roofe more than £20,000-per-week, while he will also receive a hefty signing-on fee.

Rangers have splashed £4.5 million on his signature, too, a fee that could be increased by performance-related add-ons.

In total, the deal will cost the Scottish giants over £10m, as they desperately attempt to bring in reinforcements to strengthen the squad.

GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…

Rangers are making a major financial commitment here but their eyes are clearly on a bigger prize.

They have not won the Scottish Premiership since the 2010/11 season, and they are desperate to ensure that Celtic stop their historic charge to 10-in-a-row.

It may be that the deal could be financed by Alfredo Morelos’ exit; he is in talks with Lille over a possible £17m exit, per the Football Insider report.

If they can ensure that the Colombian stays, though, and teams up with Roofe in the starting XI, Rangers could have a real challenge on their hands.

It would leave Celtic sweating, too, as the campaign continues.
