Tottenham leading the race for Metz striker

Tottenham Hotspur are preparing for a big summer reshuffle.

It was an incredibly disappointing campaign for the north London side who seemed to suffer a real hangover after reaching the Champions League final the year before.

Mauricio Pochettino was shown his marching order and was replaced by Jose Mourinho who was expected to thrust the team back into the mix for the top four.

While Spurs did manage to finish sixth in the Premier League, it was done in far from convincing style.

It was a campaign that felt like the end of a chapter for Tottenham - something that is sad for fans who have enjoyed watching the most successful era in recent years.

But when one door closes, another one opens.

Mourinho will be determined to get Spurs back on track this season.

A place in the Europa League is fine, but we all know that the Portuguese manager will not tolerate being second best.

With a new season on the horizon it's crucial that they qualify for the Champions League, but if they're to do so they'll certainly need some new faces.

According to BeIN SPorts, via Get Football News France, Spurs are leading the way for Habib Diallo.

Valued at £10.8million by Transfermarkt, the Metz striker is set to leave Ligue 1 this summer providing a suitable offer is made.

It's not the first time that Tottenham have been in contact with the attacker, with the player's agent admitting in January that Daniel Levy had made an offer.

After scoring 12 goals last term, Diallo looks destined to move on to bigger and better things with Spurs tipped as his preferred destination.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This would certainly be a good move.

Tottenham Hotspur certainly need a new striker if they're to improve this season.

Harry Kane is untouchable as the club's talisman and first choice striker, but he can't carry the team on his own.

Spurs need options in attacking areas otherwise they're going to struggle to compete on all fronts.

Habib Diallo could be the perfect solution.

The 25-year-old would certainly be a good squad option who could do a job for Jose Mourinho's side.

Providing the player is satisfied with being a backup striker, I can't see any reason why this deal wouldn't happen.

A move is likely to be relatively affordable, and given the fact that the north London side pursued him in January, it means that their interest is genuine.

It's certainly a deal to watch out for in the coming weeks.
