Everton endured a difficult end to the season.
The Toffees won just one of their final six matches in the Premier League as their campaign somewhat petered out.
Carlo Ancelotti’s men ultimately finished the season in 12th place, five points behind ninth-placed Sheffield United, and 15 clear of the relegation zone.
It was a disappointing end to what had appeared likely to be a decent season for the Toffees; they claimed a number of scalps throughout the season, beating Chelsea, and claiming draws with both Manchester United and rivals Liverpool.
And it means that the summer transfer window has taken on even greater importance.
If the Toffees have genuine aspirations of qualifying for European competition, they need to strengthen their squad.
And it appears that plans are underway to that end.
Indeed, The Sun carries quotes from a familiar name to Premier League fans, claiming that he could move to Goodison Park.
Branislav Ivanovic spent nine years at Chelsea, winning three Premier League titles, the Champions League and the Europa League, along with three FA Cups.
And he has now claimed that he is closing in on a move to Everton on a free transfer following the expiration of his Zenit St Petersburg contract.
He said: "I will probably continue my career at Everton.
"I received a good offer from them.
“I will see how things will turn out.”
Ivanovic is an experienced presence, and turned 36 in February, while also winning over 100 caps for Serbia.

This is an intriguing move for Everton.
Ivanovic isn’t going to cost the club a transfer fee, and will bring a wealth of experience to the defensive ranks at the club.
He has plenty of experience in the Premier League and is very much the kind of player who has been there and done it all.
Of course, more is needed from the club, including an injection of youth.
But bringing Ivanovic in is a low-cost, high-reward signing, and he would be a shrewd addition.
