Wayne Rooney's achievements in football are often underrated in the modern day.

England's record goal scorer was unplayable in his pomp, with Rooney the only player in Premier League history to have registered more than 300 goal involvements.

His total of 319 (208 goals and 111 assists) is one that will not be equalled or surpassed for decades, evidence of how ridiculously good the 34-year-old was during his days with Manchester United and - to a lesser extent - Everton.

Rooney joined United in the summer of 2004 and went on to become the club's record goal scorer with 253 strikes in all competitions.

The all-action forward excelled in the majority of his seasons with the Red Devils, but the 2009/10 campaign was arguably his finest in the famous red jersey.

Rooney scored 26 goals and assisted five more in the Premier League in just 32 appearances, while also adding five more goals in the Champions League - all five coming in the knockout rounds.

Stats like that are certainly Ballon d'Or worthy and Twitter user @Hxnz99 has made a brilliant video to support that point. Unsurprisingly, it's gone viral.

You can watch it for yourself below.

The guy was unstoppable before his season was disrupted by injury towards the end of the campaign. Nevertheless, he was still named the PFA Players' Player of the Year.

His performances in both legs against AC Milan in the last-16 of the Champions League are the stuff of legend.

He scored twice in both games as United secured an emphatic 7-2 aggregate victory over the Italian giants.

In the Premier League, it seemed as if no one was able to contain Rooney. Goals, fancy flicks and assists worthy of a world-class playmaker were simply a regular occurrence.

When Steven Gerrard was asked about the form of his fellow Merseysider in March 2010, the Liverpool legend replied that he was "the best player in the world".

In the end, a relatively unknown fella by the name of Lionel Messi scooped both the 2009 and 2010 Ballon d'Or awards, with Rooney's best ranking coming in the former where he finished eighth.

Oh what could have been...
