West Ham United will be targeting a big summer in the transfer market.

Last season was a big disappointment for the east London side with the Hammers finishing the season in 16th place.

At one point it looked like they were going to be embroiled in the relegation battle that would rumble until the final weekend of the season, however they were able to scramble to safety in the nick of time.

But supporters are not under any illusions that it was a near miss.

If the club are to avoid such a tense finale in the upcoming season they know that efforts will need to be made to strengthen the squad.

David Moyes is looking to sign young, domestic talent who will grow in stature and value during their time at the club, and that is why a move for one of the EFL's hottest prospects is no surprise.

Of course we're talking about Eberechi Eze.

Reports have suggested that West Ham are set to do battle with Crystal Palace over a move for the Queens Park Rangers man.

Valued at £20million by the Hoops, the attacking midfielder enjoyed quite a campaign at Loftus Road as he scored 14 and created eight for the Championship side.

Over recent days it's claimed that Palace had a bid rejected for Eze, but could be preparing a second offer to test the water.

However it seems that the Hammers have a plan up their sleeve to get a deal done.

According to Alan Nixon of The Sun, West Ham could be lining up a swap deal to try and get Eze to The London Stadium.

While it remains to be seen who could be heading the other way there is one notable option.

Jordan Hugill enjoyed a successful campaign in west London last term where he scored 15 goals for Mark Warburton's side.

He could be a potential option, however Nixon says that his wages could make it a tricky move to engineer.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

Eberechi Eze would be a very exciting signing for West Ham.

He's already shown that he's cut out for life at the very top after lighting up Loftus Road in previous seasons.

The midfielder is ready to step up to the Premier League, however the only issue could be the price tag.

Eze is QPR's prized asset and so it's only right that they don't want to let him go on the cheap.

£20million could be a little bit steep, however, and so it's smart for the Hammers to look at other arrangements.

While the finer details of a swap detail are very much up in the air, there's no doubt that it'll give the Hoops something to think about.
