Crewe defender Carl Martin has revealed he thought about quitting football during his enforced lay-off from the game.

The 26-year-old has made just one start in the last two years after being sidelined by a number of different injuries.

Having recently recovered from a hamstring strain, Martin is back in full training and raring to go. "It's been a very frustrating time for me and I'm delighted to be back playing," he told the Crewe Chronicle.

"I've had no real long-term problems, it has just been a lot of different things.

"Mentally it has been hard. There was one point when I questioned it (whether to quit) but not for long."
