The Champions League will return on Friday as the knockout stage of the competition continues.

There are still some four round-of-16 ties to be completed, with Juventus, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona among the teams vying for a place in the last eight.

Liverpool’s exit at the hands of Atletico Madrid in March means the competition is missing the reigning champions and the best team in England, but there remain some extremely strong clubs.

Bayern Munich, currently 3-0 up in their last-16 tie, looked very impressive after the restart, winning every single Bundesliga game.

It’s incredibly tough to call this year but we’ve gone ahead and ranked the remaining teams in the competition from genuine contenders to just making up the numbers.

We’ve taken into account the current situation in the round-of-16 games, which currently looks like this:

First leg: Lyon 1-0 Juventus

First leg: Real Madrid 1-2 Man City

First leg: Chelsea 0-3 Bayern Munich

First leg: Napoli 1-1 Barcelona

Without further ado, here's how we see it as the competition prepares to restart...

Genuine contenders: Real Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain

In with a chance: Barcelona, Juventus

Need a bit of luck: Atletico Madrid, Atalanta

Not good enough: Lyon, RB Leipzig, Napoli

Making up the numbers: Chelsea

Chelsea are making up the numbers

Sorry, Chelsea. We had to do it.

Frank Lampard's side must overturn a 3-0 deficit at the Allianz Arena. They need a miracle.

Messi needs help if Barcelona are to win it

Meanwhile, we're not ready to consider Barcelona as serious contenders for the competition following their disappointing form after the restart.

They must first get through Napoli on Saturday, which could be tricky.

Quique Setien's side have depended on Lionel Messi throughout the entire season and the only way in which they can win the Champions League is if the Argentinian's teammates step up to help.

Juventus need to figure it out

Maurizio Sarri's Juventus are also in the tier beneath 'Genuine contenders'.

Yes, the Old Lady won Serie A. But they were shaky after the restart, winning two out of their final eight league games.

Things didn't always look rosy under Sarri. They must overturn a 1-0 deficit in their tie against Lyon and even if they do that, Real Madrid or Man City will await them in the quarter-final.

Atalanta: Dark horses?

Atalanta, who finished third in the Italian top flight, enjoyed a terrific 8-4 aggregate win over Valencia in the last-16 and will face PSG in the next round.

It's easy to look at their 4-0 and 5-1 defeats to Dinamo Zagreb and Man City in the group stage and think they stand no chance, but those games were a long time ago now.

With a bit of luck, they could go further than most people think.
