Arsenal caused controversy on Wednesday by announcing that the club will make 55 members of staff redundant. The coronavirus pandemic has hit all aspects of society hard and revenue streams for many football teams have been seriously impacted.A statement from the Gunners reads:"Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic we have been working hard to ensure that Arsenal Football Club emerges in a robust and strong position for the future."It is now clear that we will be facing more significant and longer-lasting reductions in our revenue than we all hoped. "Our aim has been to protect the jobs and base salaries of our people for as long as we possibly can. Unfortunately, we have now come to the point where we are proposing 55 redundancies."It's fair to say Arsenal's announcement did not go down well, with many fans questioning how a Premier League club can continue to pay extortionate player wages while cutting jobs.Arsenal have cut 55 jobsThere's been an outcry on social media in the last 24 hours and on Thursday morning, Piers Morgan hit out at the club for their handling of the situation. He tweeted to say the decision to cut 55 jobs is 'morally indefensible' and 'shameful': "Arsenal firing 55 staff when we're owned by a multi-billionaire, have just made £££ by winning the FA Cup & qualifying for Europe, & pay Mesut Ozil £350k-a-week to sit on his arse, is morally indefensible & not what I expect from a club with our heritage. Shameful decision."

Well done to Piers for calling the club out. He's not the only one that is outraged with the decision either.

A report from The Athletic claims that Arsenal players are 'frustrated' about the staff cuts and will speak with the club about that decision.

When a majority of players took a 12.5% pay cut in April, they did so under the impression that it would save jobs for other staff.

Arsenal players are frustrated with the decision

Now the redundancies have been announced, there's a feeling of frustration in the dressing room - and it's not surprising at all.
