Sebastian Vettel has reportedly decided to make the switch from the Red to the Pink by swapping Ferrari for Racing Point for the 2021 season.

If reports from Italy’s Gazzetta dello Sport are anything to go by, as per F1i.com,  he has chosen his next destination once his contract at the Prancing Horse expires at the end of this season.

The German four-time Drivers' Champion has reportedly agreed a multi-year deal with Aston Martin Racing, who are morphing with Racing Point ahead of next season, and will be replacing Sergio Perez, who has a clause in his contract which is due to expire in 2021.

Otmar Szafnauer, the team boss of Racing Point, has repeatedly said the team 'had contracts with its drivers for 2021 and intended to honour those deals,' however, he also acknowledged the Silverstone-based outfit's interest in Vettel.

Vettel’s future has been uncertain for the past month or so now after it was announced that he'd be leaving Ferrari once his current deal expires, but rumours started to heat up after it emerged that talks had officially taken place between him and Racing Point.

Gazetta said: “The negotiation between Sebastian Vettel and Racing Point has been going on for a long time. The first contacts took place more than two months ago.”

Now, it seems that the deal is as good as done despite Perez testing positive for Covid-19 on the eve of the British GP last week. The main plan, though, was to announce the signing of Vettel between the two Silverstone races taking place, however, that's unlikely to happen now due to Perez's current health and wellbeing.

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff, who holds a stake in the prestigious luxury automaker, commented last weekend on the rumors of Perez's departure and Vettel's arrival in the pink squad.

He said: "Replacing Perez is not an easy decision, but Germany is the second most important market for Aston Martin. The deal with Vettel would be great for them."

As Perez seems to be out again for the next set of races taking place, it is yet to be confirmed when Vettel’s new deal will be announced, but one thing that is for certain is that taking on this role would make Vettel F1 ambassador of the new Aston Martin brand, which from 2021 will give the team its name and maybe push them towards an F1 title challenge.
