Earlier this week, we revealed who had made the European Team of the Season based on stats from WhoScored.
This time, we bring you an XI of the best U21 players in Europe’s top five leagues.
In order to qualify, a player must have been 21 or younger at the start of the 2019/20 season.
WhoScored use their ratings during the entire campaign, which has helped form a quite incredible XI full of future stars.
Let’s take a look at it:
Goalkeeper: Gianluigi Donnarumma (AC Milan) - 6.81 rating
Donnarumma kept 13 clean sheets this season to help Milan finish sixth in Serie A this season.
Right-back: Achraf Hakimi (Borussia Dortmund) - 7.32 rating
Five goals and 10 assists for the attacking full-back as he earned himself a move to Inter Milan.
Centre-back: Dayot Upamecano (RB Leipzig) - 7.06 rating
It seems as though it’s only a matter of time before Upamecano is snatched away from RB Leipzig by a bigger European club.
Centre-back: Boubacar Kamara (Marseille) - 6.99 rating
Kamara did play some of his season in midfield for Marseille as the French side finished second. He averaged 2.8 tackles per game and 1.4 interceptions.
Left-back: Alphonso Davies (Bayern Munich) - 7.52 rating
Davies probably isn’t a natural left-back but he was sensational in that position for Bayern in 2019/20. Three goals and five assists show his qualities going forward.
Right wing: Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund) - 7.64 rating
The 20-year-old racked up 17 goals and 16 assists during another incredible campaign. No wonder he’s worth £110m…
Central midfield: Kai Havertz (Bayer Leverkusen) - 7.24 rating
Havertz had 18 goals contributions in his 30 Bundesliga appearances showing why Chelsea are desperate to sign him.
Central midfield: Christopher Nkunku (RB Leipzig) - 7.33 rating
Another starlet that RB Leipzig will be desperate to keep hold of. Nkunku managed 13 assists and five goals in his 21 starts. He even managed four assists in a single game against Schalke.
Left wing: Marcus Rashford (Manchester United) - 7.35 rating
Rashford played off the left for Man Utd for the majority of the season, scoring 17 times in the Premier League and providing seven assists.
Striker: Kylian Mbappe (Paris Saint-Germain) - 8.14 rating
Mbappe contributed to 23 goals in 20 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain with 18 goals and five assists.
Striker: Erling Haaland (Borussia Dortmund) - 7.45 rating
Haaland managed 13 goals since arriving in Germany in January in just 15 appearances.
