Leeds had two choices last summer.
Stick with Manchester City loanee Jack Harrison, or swoop for Ryan Kent.
The winger was the subject of a bid from the Whites but ultimately, they ended up going for Harrison instead of Kent.
That decision was vindicated by the fact that Harrison ended up contributing to 14 goals in 2019/20.
He has become a favourite under Marcelo Bielsa, whereas, Kent ended up playing under Steven Gerrard at Rangers.
Coincidentally, Gerrard is someone that's been seen as Bielsa's eventual replacement at Elland Road.
Clearly, a narrative is starting to build here.
However, what do Rangers have to do with Leeds now?
Well, according to reports from Football Insider, they're trying to sign one of Gerrard's key men.
They state that the Whites are plotting a move for rampaging left-back Borna Barisic.
Leeds are in the market for a senior left-back this summer after a recruitment meeting where Marcelo Bielsa identified the area as a particular area for improvement.
The 27-year-old is now firmly on Victor Orta's radar in a deal that per previous claims, could cost around €10m (£9m).
That's via LaRoma24 who reported interest from Serie A side Roma in January.
Barisic only signed a new deal with Rangers this year so they are well placed to demand a highly competitive fee for his services.
GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...
Leeds have a number of left-back options but none stand out as truly efficient players.
Gjanni Alioski and Barry Douglas are the main candidates but Stuart Dallas can play there as well. That's not forgetting the young Leif Davis too.
Barisic may not be widely known to an English audience but he'd certainly be an instant upgrade on the aforementioned names.
His is adept defensively but in the final third, he is a breathtakingly good player.
The Croatia international provided 14 assists in 2019/20, a number that betters even Pablo Hernandez.
Leeds' Player of the Season created nine so it speaks volumes that he's been bettered by someone that's supposed to be playing in defence.
Barisic is also good from set-pieces, scoring a peach of a free-kick against St Mirren in the SPFL a year ago.
If they can secure him for the asking price reported back in January, it would be a perfect piece of business.
