Crystal Palace did not enjoy an exceptional season.

They finished the season in 14th place and did not win any of their final eight games of the season.

The groundwork had been put in, though, and the Eagles were never in real danger of relegation, ending the campaign nine points clear of 18th-placed AFC Bournemouth.

Palace are, thus, in the market for reinforcements this summer as they attempt to improve on a disappointing campaign under Roy Hodgson’s management.

Hodgson’s side are already putting in the work to that end, though, and have seemingly identified a target to improve their midfield.

Naturally, it remains to be seen how much money will be available this summer; the potential sale of Wilfried Zaha could well boost the coffers.

Per Football Insider, they are interested in a Southampton midfielder, who is likely to leave the club in this transfer window.

Harrison Reed has spent the season on loan at Fulham and the Eagles are hopeful of signing him this summer.

Fulham are also interested in converting his loan into a permanent deal and he would cost around £8 million.

Reed is into the last year of his contract and Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl is willing to move him on.

He made 28 appearances for Fulham this season and has also had 30 outings for Saints, though his last came in 2016/17.

GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…

Reed would be an intriguing signing for Palace.

They have an ageing midfield; James McArthur, Cheikhou Kouyate, Luka Milivojevic, and James McCarthy are all 29 or older.

A move for Reed would inject some youth and some dynamism, he is just 25, and has plenty of experience under his belt.

He has made over 30 appearances for Norwich City and Blackburn Rovers too, while winning 14 caps for England’s U20 side.

This would be an exceptional signing for Hodgson’s men.
