Juventus didn’t finish their domestic campaign very convincingly despite claiming the Serie A title.

Maurizio Sarri’s side won two of their last eight matches, limping over the finish line as Inter Milan finished just one point behind them.

In truth, they knew they had wrapped up the title weeks ago and may have taken their foot off the gas a little.

They would surely improve when the Champions League rolled again, right?

Well, they entered the second leg of their last-16 clash against Lyon trailing by a goal. Back on February 26, they lost 1-0 to the French side thanks to Lucas Tousart’s strike.

They knew nothing but a win at home would be enough to see them through to the quarter-final.

With the king of the Champions League - Cristiano Ronaldo - in their ranks, anything was possible.

But when Lyon were awarded a penalty after just 12 minutes in Turin, they were suddenly staring elimination in the face.

It was a pressure penalty but there was only one man for the job - Memphis Depay.

The Dutchman has scored nine goals in 13 appearances this season after recovering from a serious ACL injury.

But he showed no signs of any injury after he produced an outrageous Panenka to put his side 1-0 ahead in Italy. He then celebrated by standing still and putting his fingers in his ears. How calm can you get?

The significance of that penalty was that it gave Lyon an away goal and put them 2-0 ahead on aggregate.

If Juve wanted to progress now, they would need to score at least three goals.

But, like we say, with Ronaldo in their side anything is possible…
