Who needs QSI or the 49ers?

Marcelo Bielsa's promotion clinching run to the Premier League has ensured that an estimated £200m will fly into the bank account of Leeds United.

It's a healthy sum, especially for a club that were restricted by financial fair play in the Championship.

That being said, Leeds are still only targeting around four players to help prepare them for top-flight life.

It's well known how much Bielsa likes managing a small squad - just 21 players earned Championship starts last term - and as a result, money will be spent wisely, rather than rashly.

It looks as though Leeds' summer could be in stark contrast to that of Aston Villa last summer who went onto splash well over £120m.

Surviving by the skin of their teeth, it provided plenty of evidence that their blueprint wasn't entirely successful.

Speaking of spending, though, Leeds could welcome their first new signing through the door in the coming days.

Illan Meslier has already been made a permanent part of the furniture but now a new face entirely could arrive.

The Whites have been linked with a move for Wigan Athletic's Joe Gelhardt in the window and it looks as though a deal could be concluded very soon.

Victor Orta is keen to cash in on Wigan's relegation and administration by snapped up the teenager for a reduced price.

Speaking in a mailbag Q&A for The Athletic, Phil Hay revealed the following information:

"This transfer is a long way down the line. There are no issues with his medical or personal terms and Leeds are happy to meet the price set by Wigan’s administrators. It comes down to whether Gelhardt wants to join and sources close to him have told The Athletic that the move should go through on Monday. A box ticked, just about."

Leeds may well be touted with the likes of Said Benrahma and Ebere Eze, but those bigger name acquisitions will come in time.

For now, Gelhardt is a fabulous start and shows the appeal the Yorkshire club have as they enter the top-flight for the first time in 16 years.

Dubbed the new Wayne Rooney, presumably for his Scouse roots, not just because of his footballing ability, he is a player to be truly excited about.

At the age of just 18, he's already played 21 senior matches and has a goal to his name in that time.

Gelhardt celebrates

For a striker, you'd want to see him start producing some higher numbers in front of goal, but that will surely arrive in the future.

Leeds have a number of first-class youngsters already within their ranks - Pascal Struijk, Jamie Shackleton and Mateusz Bogusz to name a few - but Gelhardt would be the cream of the crop.
