Tottenham's summer is going to be particularly interesting to oversee.

Already we've seen Jose Mourinho and Daniel Levy at loggerheads over Thomas Meunier and Tanguy Ndombele, and the former surely can't be happy that he won't have much to spend.

A clash of opinion is never good, but the fact of the matter is, that COVID-19 has negatively impacted Spurs' cash reserves.

A loan of £175m had to be borrowed from the government and it looks as though the north Londoners will have to pursue cheaper options in the transfer market.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is set to join for a fee of £15m, although that could drop to £3m if you consider Kyle Walker-Peters moving the opposite way for £12m.

Callum Wilson could also arrive for a fee as low as £20m, showing that in today's market following the pandemic, vast sums of money are unlikely to be thrown around.

However, one fairly expensive deal could be done involving a defender.

Hojbjerg

With Jan Vertonghen departing on a free transfer, there is a void to fill in defence.

That could be gobbled up by none other than Milan Skriniar. Spurs have been interested in the defender already this summer but talks of him joining the Premier League have emerged once again.

According to TuttoSport, Tottenham are intensifying their discussions with Inter over a possible move.

The report states that the Slovakian is no longer an untouchable member of the squad, and as a result, could leave more easily than initially thought.

A part exchange may be offered for the services of Ndombele, a man who reportedly never wants to play under Mourinho again.

Transfermarkt currently value Skriniar at a pricey £43.2m.

Skriniar

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

Skriniar is a fantastic defender and would only benefit Tottenham as they look to get back into the Champions League.

The colossal centre-back, who stands at 6 foot 2, is both elegant and robust.

In 2019/20, the 25-year-old won 2.5 tackles per match in Europe, while completing a cool 91.1% of his passes.

That being said, it wouldn't benefit everyone at Spurs.

One man who could be left in trouble by the news is Japhet Tanganga.

Tanganga

The defender was a complete unknown to Mourinho when he arrived, but has risen to stardom under the Portuguese, impressing in the early stages of his Tottenham career.

Tanganga has played just six Premier League matches but hasn't looked out of place against the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City, winning three aerial duels per game.

The 21-year-old may have played in a variety of positions across the back four, but it's in the middle where he's most comfortable.

If Skriniar arrives, his time in that part of the pitch would surely be limited.
