Everton need to strengthen in the summer transfer window.

They did not enjoy the strongest end to the Premier League season and ultimately recorded a disappointing 12th-placed finish.

They won just one of their final five games, and signed off with a 3-1 defeat to AFC Bournemouth, who were relegated despite the victory.

With Carlo Ancelotti at the helm, though, they do have some reason to be optimistic ahead of the 2020/21 season.

He will be hoping to strengthen his squad this summer, one imagines, as he bids to take the Toffees to within touching distance of the European qualification places.

And it appears that plans to that end are underway.

Sport Witness carries reports from Brazil claiming that the Toffees have informed Botafogo that they will be making a bid for one of their youngsters.

Luis Henrique is the target, with the Toffees keen to snap up the left winger.

The 18-year-old has made just three appearances for Botafogo thus far in his career, and has a contract with the club until 2022.

He has been the subject of interest from Spartak Moscow in the past, too, while Napoli have also expressed an interest.

GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…

This is not the kind of deal that is going to immediately improve Everton.

He is only 18 and has never really shown what he can do on a global or European scale.

If Everton are to take steps forward next season they need to be targeting genuine first-teamers that can make an impact.

Of course, signing hot prospects is exciting for fans, and seeing them develop is one of the best parts of supporting a club.

But, at the end of the day, Everton really need to sign some proper first-team stars this summer to take some forward strides.
