Kai Havertz to Chelsea gathers pace after parties 'agree deal' for starlet

It's set to be a big summer for Chelsea Football Club.

Frank Lampard's first season in charge was not without issue with a transfer ban limiting his chances of making his mark on the squad.

Thankfully for him, there's plans to change that this summer.

While the Blues were able to secure Champions League football via the top four of the Premier League, the club are under no illusions of how much work still needs to be done to close the gap on the elite.

Saturday night's collapse against Bayern Munich showed as much, with the gulf in class plain for all to see.

The only way that Lampard's side will close that gap is by spending big and attracting the very best players to west London - something that they have big aspirations of doing.

Having signed Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner already, attention is now firmly focused on one of Europe's most talented young players.

Of course that man is Kai Havertz.

Chelsea's interest in the Bayer Leverkusen starlet has been well documented, with the move certainly appearing possible.

With the German side missing out on Champions League football, the Blues will be hoping that they can lure the 21-year-old to England and offer him a platform to fulfil his potential at the highest level.

According to one report, a deal looks to be moving closer.

RMC Sport have claimed that Havertz has agreed a five-year deal with the west London side, with the player joining the club for a fee of £90million.

However according to reputable football broadcaster Jan Aage Fjortoft, the cost of a deal could be as low as £75million.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This would be an unbelievable deal for Chelsea.

While the sums being talked about are huge, it's what they will need to spend if they're to attract the best players in the world.

Havertz is valued at £72.9million by Transfermarkt, and that's not a surprise given just how highly rated this young man is.

Frank Lampard is determined to build a young and exciting team that's filled with the best talent in the game, and signing the 21-year-old would certainly tick that box.

After establishing himself as a first team regular with Bayer Leverkusen, and then being named captain, Havertz is more than ready to join Chelsea and really hit the ground running.

While a deal is yet to be confirmed, it seems that this deal is a case of 'when' rather than 'if'.
