Gareth Bale makes Real Madrid contract decision that will leave the club furious

Bale is happy to run down his Real Madrid contract

Gareth Bale's case at Real Madrid is a curious one.

He arrived for a then world-record fee of over £85 million in 2013 and it's fair to say he gave Los Blancos their money's worth in his first few seasons.

The Welshman has won two La Liga titles, four Champions League crowns, two UEFA Super Cups and one Copa del Rey at the Bernabeu.

Bale has also been a club world champion on three separate occasions. With the exemption of this year's La Liga win, he's not exactly been a passenger either.

He's netted an impressive 105 goals in 251 Real Madrid appearances and those numbers certainly aren't to be sniffed at.

So why is his relationship with the fans - and even manager Zinedine Zidane - so soured?

Some will claim he's disrespected Los Blancos since falling out of favour, while others will say it's the other way around, especially with his own supporters booing him.

Bale's relationship with Real Madrid has turned sour

The 2019/20 season has made one thing clear though - Bale won't be playing much at the Bernabeu going forward - even though he has two years left on his contract.

Most other top players would probably seek a move away, but not Gareth. Oh no, in fact, he's apparently going to do the opposite.

According to The Sun, Bale will run down the rest of his contract - which will see him earn up to £60 million - just to spite Real Madrid for blocking his move away from the club last summer.

Bale is happy on the bench at Real Madrid

In 2019, the forward was on the brink of securing a move to Jiangsu Suning in the Chinese Super League and was set to pocket around £1 million a week.

But Madrid made a u-turn at the 11th hour and blocked his transfer, a decision that Bale is still said to be furious about.

So now, he's planning to make the club pay - quite literally - by running down his £400,000-per-week contract even if he doesn't play another game.

Bale might not play again for Real Madrid

Nice work if you can get it.
