That's why a move for a back-up player could be seen as worthwhile.
But according to reports, it seems that a move of this sort might still be some way off.
It's been claimed that Liverpool were considering a move for Ismaila Sarr.
The winger was one of the few shining lights at Watford this term in a campaign that saw the Hornets relegated to the Championship.
However according to The Sun, Sarr won't be playing at Anfield this season.
Watford reportedly want a fee of £40million for the 22-year-old, however this will prove too costly for the Merseysiders.
Wolves are in a similar position regarding his asking price, while Crystal Palace are also said to be interested in a move.
The Eagles are thought to be leading the way for Sarr's signature, with a deal not likely to depend on the future of Wilfried Zaha.
Described as 'a real match-winner' by Nigel Pearson, Sarr enjoyed a promising first season in English football with the winger managing to score six and create six more in the league.
Whether that'll be enough to convince anyone to cough up £40million however, remains to be seen.

Liverpool dropping out the race for Ismaila Sarr is completely understandable.
While many supporters would love to see their side strengthen this summer, it has to be the right deal for the club.
Paying £40million for a player who will likely be a squad player is an awful lot - particularly given the economic impact of the recent COVID-19 pandemic.
The Reds will certainly be keen to strengthen, but they'll need to see better value for money than that.
Sarr is certainly a big talent who will be playing at the highest level soon enough.
However that time is not now, with the winger needing to really prove himself at a mid-table Premier League side.
Crystal Palace would be an ideal move, however this again depends on the finances involved.
