Leeds United tipped to sign Rangers FC ace

It's just over five weeks until the day that Leeds United fans have been waiting for.

After 16 long years away from the top of the English football system the Whites will make a long-awaited return to Premier League action.

It's been a long road back and supporters certainly won't be taking their return for granted.

Marcelo Bielsa deserves huge credit for the job done in helping Leeds back to their former glory, while his playing squad also deserve massive plaudits.

As a result, most look set to be given a chance to continue what they started next term.

But as you'd expect, there will be some new faces arriving at Elland Road.

Several positions are being targeted, one of of which is the role of left back.

Rangers FC defender Borna Barisic is the latest player to be linked with a move to Elland Road.

Reports from Football Insider claimed that the Croatian is one of the players who is on the radar of Victor Orta and the recruitment team.

Valued at £3.6million by Transfermarkt, Barisic has been tipped to be a success at Elland Road by Noel Whelan, who believes that he's exactly the sort of player that will fit into Bielsa's system.

Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan said: “I think what he’s trying to do is get that right balance. I think you have to have a left-footed player down that side.

“Stuart Dallas has done a fantastic job and there’s going to be competition from Stuart whether that be at right-back or left-back, we’re still going to need that strength in depth.

“I just think sometimes you need that balance down the left-hand side, with a good left foot, and his pedigree is fantastic – international, assists, everything you’re talking about with Marcelo Bielsa, who likes to play with wing-backs nice and high and that high energy going forward.

“Another good player that could be very useful for us.”

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This would be a great signing for Leeds United.

As well as being an attacking wing-back in the truest sense of the word, Barisic has a reputation of being a real set-piece specialist - something that could come in very handy for the Whites this term.

The left side of defence is definitely an area that needs addressing this term.

Stuart Dallas, Gjanni Alioski and Barry Douglas are also adept at playing there, but Marcelo Bielsa will definitely be looking for a more natural fit to take on such a key role in his system.

With experience of thriving at a big club, Barisic could be an ideal option - the only issue, of course, is whether Steven Gerrard would allow him to leave.
