Snooker legend Ronnie O'Sullivan gave one of the most brutal sporting interviews ever at the World Championship last night. The five-time world champion beat Ding Junhui 13-10 in the Crucible Theatre, booking a spot in the quarter-finals where he will face fellow old timer Mark Williams.O'Sullivan and Williams have won eight world titles between them after making their professional debuts in 1992.As such, Rocket Ronnie was asked by the media about whether he believed both he and Williams would still be performing at the highest level some two decades later. His answer was savage, with O'Sullivan criticising the standard of the young players breaking into the sport.

O'Sullivan told BBC Two: "Probably not if you asked me then but when you look at the standard of play, I would say yes.

"People like me, John Higgins and Mark Williams, if you look at the younger players coming through, they are not that good really. Most of them would do well as half-decent amateurs, not even amateurs. They are so bad.

"A lot of them you see now, you look at them and think, 'I would have to lose an arm and a leg to fall out of the top 50'. That is why we are still hovering around, because of how poor it is down that end."

The interviewer suggested that the standard within snooker right now was not that bad, but O'Sullivan simply replied: "It is."

O'Sullivan with one of his many trophies

This is not the first time O'Sullivan has questioned the level of the young talent within the sport.

When asked by Stephen Hendry on Instagram during lockdown whether he had seen any future world champions, O'Sullivan replied, per Metro: "No one, I haven’t seen anyone.

"When you look around you think, who’s out there that’s any good? I’m still playing, Higgins, we shouldn’t be competing really but we’ve been lucky that the fresh crop haven’t been that good to knock us off our perch."

O'Sullivan is currently sixth in the snooker world rankings, with his last world title coming back in 2013.
