Carlo Ancelotti will not have Alex or Ramires available when Chelsea takes on Birmingham on Wednesday night.

“Alex and Ramires will not be involved [in the Birmingham game], we have a problem with Ivanovic and we will check today in the training session,” the Chelsea manager said.

Ivanovic suffered tightness in the groin while playing against West Brom on Saturday and was substituted early, but the star was planning to participate in a Chelsea training session today, as Ancelotti faces more time out for his Brazilian defenders.

“[Ramires and Alex] are out, I think also against West Ham and they will be ready to play against Tottenham.

“They are hamstring injuries.

“Ivanovic is just a little one, he has a tight muscle, he will train and I think he will be okay tomorrow.”

After being knocked out of the Champions League last week, Chelsea are now concentrating on finishing as high as possible in the Barclays Premier League. Ancelotti says that the Birmingham match up will be tough, with the 1-0 defeat of last November still at the forefront of the Chelsea manager’s mind.

“That game was one of our best performances in the season,” Ancelotti said.

'We didn't win, we were really unlucky. Birmingham is a good team, they had a difficult moment but I think they are in good momentum, playing well and winning.

“They have a little bit over the relegation positions, it will be a tough game but we have to be ready to win.

“They had very good results in the last weeks and obviously are not out so for this reason they need to take a point tomorrow.

“It will be a tough game, they have good organisation and I think they will try to play counter-attack tomorrow as they played in their home game.”
