Catania striker Gianvito Plasmati will spend a week on trial with SPL giants Celtic reports the Glasgow Evening Times.

The 28-year-old Serie A star has been handed an opportunity to impress, with a view to signing ahead of next season.

Hoops boss Neil Lennon is keen to add to his attacking options at Celtic Park, and has earmarked the 6ft 6in target man as a potential acquisition.

Plasmati comes with a solid pedigree having worked his way up the Italian leagues, having also played for Foggia and Atlanta in recent seasons.

He now plans to kick-start his career in Scotland with Celtic, after becoming embroiled in a contractual battle with current club Catania.

Available on a free transfer at the end of the season, if Plasmati displays the potential he has shown in fits and starts while with the Bhoys – then a Bosman transfer could prove to be a clever piece of business for Celtic.

With a respectable scoring record, Plasmati's main problem is that he has never truly settled. He is regarded as somewhat of a journeyman, highlighted by the fact he has already played for 12 different clubs despite only being 28.

But the highly rated Italian star, will hope to find his feet in Lennoxtown as he looks to secure a contract with Celtic, with a view to firing them to SPL glory next season.
