Leeds United are preparing for life in the Premier League.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side were in exceptional form throughout the 2019/20 season, ending the campaign with 93 points, and just nine defeats to their name.

They did not lose once in their final eight games of the season, and they are now looking to strengthen their squad for the challenge that lies ahead.

They will once again be mixing it up with the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, bitter rivals Manchester United, and Arsenal.

And it seems that Director of Football Victor Orta is casting his net far and wide in terms of strengthening Bielsa’s crop of players.

And it seems that a striker has been identified as a possible acquisition but there is some intense competition.

Indeed, there is said to be interest from Tottenham Hotspur as well, as Leeds look to bring some more firepower into the club.

FC Metz striker Habib Diallo is said to be on the shortlist of both clubs, per L’Equipe via Sport Witness.

The 25-year-old has been with Metz since 2015 and has made 111 appearances for the club, scoring 48 goals and registering 14 assists.

He scored 12 times in 2019/20, even captaining the side at points, as they finished 15th in the table.

The report states that Metz are open to cashing in on Diallo this summer, though, and could let him leave if they receive a “satisfying offer”.

The asking price has been set at between €12 million and €15 million (£10.7m and £13.4m), a figure that one has to think both Leeds and Spurs can match should they wish to.

Leeds were forced to rely on Patrick Bamford last season and he scored 16 goals in 47 outings, though it remains to be seen if he will be able to score regularly in the top-flight.

GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…

A deal for Diallo would add some depth to Bielsa’s forward ranks.

He is a potentially cheap acquisition, who has scored goals in one of Europe’s premier leagues.

Add in that he has plenty of experience too, winning four caps for Senegal and spending five years with the club, and one has to believe he would be a shrewd recruit.

Beating Spurs to the punch, then, has to be a priority for Leeds but it may not be easy.

Jose Mourinho’s side only have Harry Kane as their senior striker, after all, and have allowed Troy Parrott to join Millwall on loan.

Their need for a striker is just as great as Leeds’ – it may come down to who is willing to pay the higher fee.
