Manchester United are lining up their summer business.

They have yet to make a signing but one has to think that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs fresh recruits if his side are to compete properly next season.

Indeed, they will be returning to the Champions League after their third-placed finish in the Premier League.

It marked the first time that United have qualified for the competition via their league position since 2017/18, when they finished second under Jose Mourinho.

Bringing in reinforcements, then, has to be a priority and there have been plenty of reports to that end.

The club are almost certainly working on a deal to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho due to the sheer amount of reports surrounding him.

But it seems that they are also looking to bring in a new defender too.

Sport Witness carries a report from Gazzetta dello Sport claiming that they are interested in snapping up Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

The defender has often been linked with an exit from the Serie A club, and it appears that the Red Devils are attempting to bring the centre-back to England.

The report states that United are willing to pay €70 million (£62.9m) for the 29-year-old.

Napoli are said to be asking for that figure as they look to raise funds, and if there are no other bids, he will be allowed to move on.

There does appear to be a hope that a bidding war could erupt, but United will be hoping no other club express an interest.

GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…

Koulibaly is a world-class defender.

And United could do with one of those.

They do have Harry Maguire, of course, but Victor Lindelof is not exactly a top-tier defender.

Bringing in Koulibaly to partner with the ex-Leicester City man would immediately improve the backline and allow the club to tighten up somewhat in preparation for the Champions League.

It remains to be seen if United will have the money if they sign Sancho too, but this would be a top-class addition to the squad.
