Man Utd 1-0 Copenhagen: Ole Gunner Solskjaer's lovely chat with Zeca at full-time

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spoke with Zeca at full-time

Manchester United are through to the semi-finals of the Europa League.

An extra-time penalty from January signing Bruno Fernandes was enough to see off a determined FC Copenhagen side last night.

It was yet another match-winning moment from the Portuguese midfielder, his 19th goal contribution (11 goals, eight assists) in just 21 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils.

The signing of the 25-year-old has changed the course of United's season and they will be one of the big favourites to win the Europa League in 2019/20.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made his feelings towards Fernandes clear on numerous occasions and he did so again last night at full-time.

Fernandes take his penalty

The United boss spoke to FC Copenhagen captain Zeca on the pitch after the final whistle was blown, stating that Fernandes was "helping" United get back to the very top.

Zeca, a self-confessed United fan, said to Solskjaer: “Thank you very much for everything you have done in Manchester."

Solskajer replied: “We’re trying to get it back. He is [Fernandes] helping, this boy is helping.”

Zeca then added: "Yeah, this guy is amazing. He's amazing."

Without the signing of Fernandes, United would all but certainly have failed to qualify for the Champions League through finishing in the Premier League's top four.

Fernandes in action

His goals, assists and influence on matches have been critical to the team and now the Portuguese will be targeting silverware in his first season with the club.

United will face the winner of tonight's quarter-final between Wolves and Sevilla in the final four, with either side representing a tough game for Solskjaer's team.

But with Fernandes and an in-form Anthony Martial, you have to fancy the Red Devils to go all the way in Europe's second-tier competition.

United won the competition back in 2016/17 under Jose Mourinho and that was the last time the club lifted a trophy.
