Leeds United have high hopes for the season ahead.

After 16 years outside of the top flight many supporters are keen to make up for lost time by attempting to take the Premier League by storm.

Of course that will be easier said than done.

Marcelo Bielsa inspired his side to play some riveting football in the Championship last term, and it was no surprise at all that they cruised to promotion.

But the challenge in the top flight will be completely different.

If Leeds are to grind out results then they'll need to be firing on all cylinders, while also making sure that they've addressed their weaknesses in the transfer market.

One player who has been heavily linked with a move to Elland Road is Said Benrahma.

The Brentford winger scored 17 and created nine as the Bees made it all the way to the play-off final before suffering a heartbreaking extra-time defeat to Fulham at Wembley.

But while the Algerian is certainly in demand, former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson has said that signing the tricky winger should not be a priority.

Speaking to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “I think the priority should be a number nine. Listen, Benrahma is an outstanding player and he’d be a great addition to the side.

“He’d certainly start most games, if not every game for Leeds.

“If they can get him as well as a number nine then great, but that’s the real priority for me, to take some of the workload off Patrick Bamford.

“Bamford only scored 16 goals this season. Most teams around Leeds had a striker who scored 20+ goals and that’s what Leeds need most of all – a number nine who can score 20+ goals in the Premier League.”

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

While we'd all love to see Said Benrahma playing in the Premier League, I'm not sure that he should be a priority.

The Whites have a fair amount of options in wide areas already, and while Said Benrahma would be a guaranteed starter, it's worth keeping an eye on the coffers.

Leeds United are in desperate need of a centre back, a left back and a striker - all of which are likely to cost big money.

To spend a large sum on the Brentford man would certainly be exciting, but you'd have to worry about what impact that will have on the budget available to strengthen elsewhere.

The ideal scenario is that Victor Orta can sign four or five top additions, but if that's unlikely then they need to prioritise.
