Aston Villa threw their money around like it was going out of fashion last summer.
Buoyed with a hefty sum of money following promotion from the Championship, Dean Smith's men went on to spend over £120m.
It was a summer to remember, even if the season that followed wasn't.
The Villans struggled all term long and only stayed up on the final day - a win against Arsenal a couple of days before rescuing them from what looked like inevitable relegation.
However, it was a testament to the hard work done by Smith during the break for COVID.
The Midlands side didn't look like they had a fighting chance until they addressed some of the key issues plaguing the squad.
Against the Gunners, their work was summed up remarkably by keeping a clean sheet.
Aston Villa can't afford to rest on their laurels now, and that looks unlikely with another spending spree set to be funded by the club.
The likes of Odsonne Edouard have been considered but he could cost in the region of £40m.
Cut that price in half and you'll find another target for Villa.
According to the print edition of The Sun (9th August), they're interested in signing dynamic Norwich playmaker Emi Buendia.
Crystal Palace are also in the race for a player who is reportedly available at a price of £20m.
Buendia was supposedly a target for Villa back in 2019, but he stayed with the Canaries.
Remaining at Carrow Road looks less likely this time.

Buendia is an interesting character.
At the start of the 2019/20 season, he was mesmeric and began to become a break out star in the Premier League.
He registered four assists in five matches but over the course of the rest of the season, scored just once.
Despite being an inconsistent player, he could actually improve the Villans. Only Jack Grealish, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kevin De Bruyne created more opportunities than him in the top-flight.
Though, on top of that, the 23-year-old has mesmeric dribbling ability.
He was successful with 2.8 of his dribbles this season, a tally that eclipses John McGinn and even Grealish.
The Villa skipper is well known for being clever with the ball at his feet so it speaks volumes that they could find someone who is better than him in that department.
Just think how dangerous the midfield could be if they combined Buendia with the work rate and technical beauty of McGinn and Grealish.
They need to add more goals to their forward line, but they may just do that by singing someone as creative and difficult to mark as the Argentine.
